The kids wanted to go "skating" at the school skate party tonight.

Only one of them even put on skates, and I had to bribe him to go around the rink with me. (Mom, the wood floor is slippery, I'll stay on the carpet with my skates.)

I had a bruised little toe from stubbing it this morning, but I strapped on the skates and wobbled around and around. Oddly enough, I was the only Mom that went out on the rink. Go figure. And I looked pretty good out there once I got started. I just had a *little* maneuverability problem, especially when people cut in front of me, hence the skinned knee. (You know, it's really hard to get back on your feet when you have wheels strapped to them.)

Meanwhile, the boys are at the arcade. Next time the little one will be bribed to do TWO trips around the rink with me, and the bigger one will be bribed to have skates on in the carpeted area.

So are you now considering a career in roller derby?

I don't have the temperament for roller derby.

I should invent a new game, say one involving lawn darts and pictures of Presidential candidates.

It has been my experience that I'm much more helpful to my little skaters if I keep my shoes ON. My ankles don't like skates anymore.
